Are you single?

Ready to mingle? Did you know that the first Sunday of the year (this upcoming Sunday 1/7/18) is the most popular day to be on dating apps and websites? Many people turn to the internet and apps as they are hoping to find true love, or perhaps maybe just a hook up. With 1.7 million singles in America, it’s expected that these apps and websites are going to be busy.

How to stand out on the dating apps

With so many people hitting the apps, it’s important to have an interesting profile that stands out and will help you get many matches and messages. Follow the simple guidelines below to start lining up all the ladies and/or gents.dating apps

  • Post up a great head shot. Not just a selfie, but a decent head shot will help you stand out among all the car selfies.
  • Post up a flattering full body shot. Even if you have a few extra pounds, find the best angle that flatters your curves.
  • Post up pictures that show what you enjoy doing. If you like to ski, post up a picture of you skiing. People love action shots.
  • Write a decent description of what you’re looking for and what you bring to the table. Something short and sweet since you really won’t know someone until you talk to them.

My dating website experiences

I’ve had quite a few interesting experiences with dating apps and websites. One of my favorite was the guy who wrote things he observed down on his hand to later tell stories about what he saw when no one else was around. Another good one was the guy who got mad at me when I told him I wasn’t attracted to him. He said that I wasn’t a true Christian because I was superficial. The one that takes the cake though was the virgin who nearly jumped on me and begged me for sex. I had to push him off of me and say no repeatedly for him to stop. Needless to say, I never talked to that guy again.

What dating app is right for you?

In general, it depends on your age and what you’re looking for. See the guidelines below.

If you’re in your 20’s or 30’s:  Tinder, Bumble, OKCupid, and Plenty of Fish

40’s: Match

50’s or 60’s: eHarmony and OurTime

Map Your Run

As a new or seasoned runner alike, it’s important to map out your runs so that you know how far you’re running. You can simply look at a map or utilize a device to keep track of your distance. No matter how you do it, running and keeping track of your distance is a good idea.

Running and keeping track

Back before there were smart phones or wearable GPS devices, runners were forced to use a paper map of where they were going to run in order to know the distance of their runs. If you didn’t plan ahead, you risked the chance of getting lost unless you were running a known trail or track loop distance multiple times. Being a runner meant that you had to know the areas where you ran pretty well. Over time, you learn how many blocks equates to a certain distance. For example, that two mile loop around your neighborhood that you run consistently.

Tracking devices

running and keeping trackNow that there are many different types of smart devices and running apps, you have more running freedom. Freedom to set out and run until you hit your distance (or rather half so you can run an out & back). Also, with technology, you have instant feedback in regards to your pace and timing. And sometimes, even heart rate. I wrote about tracking your fitness, but running is an exercise that you can improve upon with a proper tracking device.

The consistent and instantaneous feedback can help you learn how and when to change your pace and/or distance. Some runners focus on increasing their distance whereas other runners focus on increasing their speed. It’s important to choose either distance or speed to focus on since it’s difficult to work on both simultaneously.

Devices that help me run better

These are the devices and apps that I use to track my runs in order to run further. They also helped me get through Chicago Marathon training.

What do you use to keep track of your runs? I also use the Nike running app in addition to the Garmin app to track my runs.
